According to my research you can tow up to 4,500 lbs with your 2016 Ford Flex if you have the Class III Trailer Towing Package (which looks like it includes a 4/7 Way wiring harness, hitch receiver, trailer sway controller, and an engine oil cooler). There are a few things that you can do to help out your 2013 Ford Explorer for when you are towing. You can add an air intake system, a tuner, and also an aftermarket transmission cooler to get the most out of your Explorer. After doing a bit of research on the internet, I was able to find that the Fram filter, PH3950, will work on the 20 x 1.5 mm threaded adapter included with the thermostatic adapter, part # D25732. This filter has a 2.80 inch outside diameter gasket that will work with the thermostatic adapters.

It sounds like you have a Chevrolet big block engine, 1972 or earlier. If your engine uses the PH13 Fram oil filter then the thread size is 13/16-16 and you would need to use the Derale Premium Spin-On Adapter Kit with 13/16-16 Engine Filter Threads, # D35705.
